FORT COLLINS, CO – March 20, 2008 – Fort Collins took a huge jump on the Forbes.com annual ranking of Best Places for Business and Careers, moving from No. 28 last year to a third-place spot on this year's list.
The city's new ranking was based on its strong educational component, with an estimated 40 percent of its residents holding a college degree, and its "strong income growth and business costs (that are) well below other Colorado locales like Boulder and Denver," an announcement from Forbes.com said.
The rankings were based on labor costs, tax energy and office space costs, the cost of living, crime, culture and recreation and the presence of a four-year educational institution.

Raleigh, N.C. placed No. 1 on the list for the second year in a row. Also in this year's top 10 were: Boise, Idaho at No. 2; Des Moines, Iowa, No. 4; Lexington, Ky., No. 5; Atlanta, Ga., No. 6; Richmond, Va., No. 7; Olympia and Spokane, Wash., Nos. 8 and 9, and Knoxville, Tenn. at No. 10.
