Premier Employment Screening Services Adds I-9 Verification to its Product Offerings

Fort Collins, CO – July, 2006 – Premier Employment Screening Services, a nationwide provider of background screening products, has added I-9 Verification to its line of screening products.

“Employers have an enormous responsibility to verify their employees are authorized to work in the US,” says Katie Zwetzig of Premier. “Our I-9 Verification process standardizes the process and takes the subjectivity out of verifying I-9 validation. It ensures our clients have a legal workforce.”

With I-9 Verification, Premier quickly and easily verifies the work authorization of newly hired employees. Falling under the jurisdiction of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service’s (USCIS) Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) Program, Premier is able to conduct employment verification of potential candidates. Currently, this is the only way employers can verify that the information provided on the I-9 form by their newly hired employees is valid.

The Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA) legally mandate that U.S. employers verify the employment eligibility status of newly-hired employees and make it unlawful for employers to knowingly hire or continue to employ unauthorized workers.

An employer’s non-compliance, whether intentional or simply caused by oversight, has severe financial and legal consequences imposed by the Department of Homeland Security. The following is a partial list of federally mandated fines:

  • Employers who fail to properly complete, retain, or make I-9 Forms available for inspection can face fines ranging from $100 to $1,100 per individual I-9.
  • Employers who knowingly hire or knowingly continue to employ unauthorized workers can expect civil penalties ranging from $250 to $11,000 per violation.
  • Employers engaging in a pattern or practice of knowingly hiring or continuing to employ unauthorized workers face fines as high as $3,000 per employee and/or 6 months of imprisonment.

Premier Employment Screening Services gives employers peace of mind knowing that all new hires have valid documentation and are authorized to work in the US.
